How to Safely Send Ashes for Memorial Jewelry — A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Safely Send Ashes for Memorial Jewelry — A Step-by-Step Guide

Creating memorial jewelry is a deeply personal way to keep the memory of someone you love close to you. If you are considering an ashes ring, necklace, or other keepsake, you may be wondering how to safely send a small portion of ashes to us.

At Love Catcher, we make the process as simple and secure as possible. After you place your order, we will send you an Ashes Collection Kit with the supplies and instructions you need to prepare and return the ashes.

Here is how the process works.

How Much Ash Do I Need to Send?

Only a very small amount is needed.

Please send approximately 1/4 teaspoon of ashes for each order unless we provide different instructions for your specific piece.

This gives our artisans enough material to create your memorial jewelry while allowing us to work carefully with the ashes throughout the crafting process.

You do not need to send the entire amount of ashes you have.

Step 1: Receive Your Ashes Collection Kit

After your order is placed, Love Catcher will send you an Ashes Collection Kit.

Your kit includes the supplies needed to safely prepare the ashes for return, including a small mini ashes urn, a measuring spoon, protective return packaging, and instructions.

Please wait until you receive your collection kit before sending the ashes.

Step 2: Measure Approximately 1/4 Teaspoon of Ashes

Open the mini ashes urn included in your kit.

Using the provided spoon, carefully collect approximately 1/4 teaspoon of ashes.

Only a small amount is required to create your memorial jewelry, so there is no need to fill the entire urn.

If some of the ashes contain larger fragments, that is completely normal. Our artisans will select and prepare the appropriate portions during the crafting process.

Step 3: Place the Ashes Inside the Mini Urn

Carefully transfer the measured ashes into the mini urn.

Once the ashes are inside, close the lid securely to help prevent the container from opening during transit.

Please do not place loose ashes directly inside the return box or mailing envelope.

Step 4: Make Sure Your Sample Can Be Identified

Follow the labeling instructions included with your collection kit.

Your ashes sample should be associated with your name and order number so that we can correctly identify it when it arrives at our studio.

Your order number is especially important because it allows us to match the ashes with your jewelry order throughout the crafting process.

Step 5: Place the Mini Urn in the Return Box

Place the securely closed mini urn into the protective return box provided with your kit.

The return box helps protect the urn during shipping and keeps your sample safely contained.

Close the box securely before placing it into the return mailing package.

Step 6: Send Your Ashes Back to Love Catcher

Place the return box inside the return packaging provided with your collection kit and follow the shipping instructions included with your order.

U.S. Customers

For customers in the United States, a prepaid return shipping label is included with the collection process. Simply follow the instructions provided with your kit to send your ashes back to us.

Canada and International Customers

For customers outside the United States, the collection kit and return packaging are provided, but return postage is the customer's responsibility.

We recommend using a tracked shipping service whenever possible so that you can follow the shipment until it reaches us.

What Happens After Love Catcher Receives the Ashes?

Once your ashes arrive, our team will identify the sample using your order information and prepare it for your jewelry.

Your memorial piece will then be individually handcrafted by one of our artisans according to the options selected with your order, such as color, pearl or opal effects, and the visibility of the ashes.

Because every sample is naturally different and every piece is handmade, subtle variations are part of what makes each piece unique.

Our standard production time is generally 6–8 weeks after we receive your sample. If you selected Rush Service, the applicable rush timeline will follow the terms shown with your order.

What Happens to the Remaining Ashes?

We use only the amount necessary to create your jewelry.

If any ashes remain after your piece has been completed, they are handled respectfully according to our sample-handling procedures. If you would specifically like unused ashes returned, please contact us so we can confirm the available return arrangements for your order.

Can I Use Pet Ashes?

Yes.

We can create memorial jewelry using ashes from either a person or a beloved pet. The collection and shipping process is the same unless otherwise specified for your particular design.

We can also create many keepsake pieces using other meaningful materials, including pet fur or hair.

What If I Have Very Little Ashes Available?

Please contact us before sending your sample.

Many designs require only a very small amount, and depending on the jewelry style, our artisans may still be able to create your piece even if you have less than 1/4 teaspoon available.

We understand that these materials are irreplaceable and will never ask you to send more than is reasonably necessary.

A Small Amount, Handled With Care

We understand that sending a loved one's ashes can feel very different from mailing an ordinary package. That is why our collection process is designed to keep the sample contained, identifiable, and protected from the moment you prepare it until it reaches our studio.

If you are ever unsure about how to prepare or return your ashes, please contact the Love Catcher team before shipping. We are happy to guide you through the process.
